Shaping the future of Frankfurt’s cultural landscape together!

Dr. Ina Hartwig Head of Department for Culture and Science of the City of Frankfurt am Main

Process

Strengthening and further developing cultural activities in Frankfurt am Main are the goals of the cultural development planning. Dialogue, participation and transparency are the guiding principles of the three-year process, which is based on the broad participation of cultural institutions and cultural operators as well as external experts and the interested public. The aim is to facilitate a comprehensive debate on the future development of Frankfurt’s cultural landscape. The focal points of cultural development planning are the cross-cutting themes of cultural participation and digitalisation as well as promoting the independent cultural scene. The process offers the opportunity to discuss current challenges facing culture in Frankfurt within the framework of a structured procedure, to develop approaches to solutions and to work out recommendations for action. The various surveys, discussion and participation formats are divided into three phases, which build on each other in terms of content. In the data collection phase, surveys of different groups of people and target groups on the needs and potential for culture in Frankfurt will be conducted. In the subsequent participation phase, ideas and proposals for the further development of cultural activities will be collected, and in the conception phase, the prioritised measures will be developed. The results, including recommendations for action will finally be documented and submitted to the city council for consultation. The results of the cultural development plan are expected to be presented at the end of 2024. Once the measures have been approved by the city council, the implementation phase can begin.
