Workshop #8:

Ecological sustainability in culture

02.05.2023 ∙ 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ∙ online

Undoubtedly, the climate crisis is the greatest challenge of our time. It requires a radical rethinking and a change of established habits in many areas of our social life. Art and culture are also affected by this crisis and are requested to critically reassess and to further develop traditional methods of production and presentation in the sense of the “ecological turn”. In our workshop, we will discuss the potential of a self-imposed commitment of Frankfurt’s cultural institutions to ecological sustainability and how the exchange of experience and knowledge on sustainability in the cultural sector could be strengthened. In addition, we will ask what chances the implementation of a loan option for material, technology and furniture would offer and what aspects should be considered when organising events in order to make them as sustainable as possible.

key questions:

1st In your opinion, what chance could there be for a shared pledge and a self-imposed commitment of Frankfurt’s cultural institutions to ecological sustainability? What aspects should be taken into account here?

2nd From your point of view, what potential for conserving resources could be expected by setting up a loan exchange for equipment not needed on a permanent or regular basis, for example in the areas of materials, technology or furnishing?

3rd What aspects do you think should be considered in order to organise cultural events as sustainably as possible?

4th In your view, how could the exchange of knowledge and experience on sustainability questions in the cultural sector be strengthened and/or promoted?
