Workshop #6:

Inclusion

25 April 2023 ∙ 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ∙ online

In 2008, with the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Federal Republic of Germany recognised the right of persons with disabilities to participate in cultural life on equal terms with others and, at the same time, pledged to promote their artistic work for their individual self-realisation as well as for social enrichment. Along these lines, equal opportunities and equal access to art and culture for people with disabilities are the key elements of an inclusive cultural policy. In our workshop, we will therefore ask how visits to cultural institutions and cultural events can be made as barrier-free as possible and what measures are needed to achieve this. We will also discuss how the artistic work of people with disabilities can be improved and how the exchange of knowledge and experience on issues of inclusion in the cultural sector can be expanded.

Key questions:

1st What structural and design measures should be implemented in cultural institutions to make visits as barrier-free as possible?

2nd What aspects should be taken into account when organising cultural events to make them as barrier-free as possible?

3rd In your opinion, what steps would be suitable to support and promote the artistic work of people with disabilities?

4th How could the exchange of knowledge and experience on questions of inclusion in the cultural sector be strengthened and promoted?
