Workshop #5:

Opening of cultural institutions: Programme and audience

30. March 2023 ∙ 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. ∙ online

Culture is not an absolute, unchangeable value, but is always related to a society and a certain moment in time. Social change is therefore always accompanied by new demands and expectations of cultural offerings in order to remain relevant to a city’s population and to address current issues. We therefore ask: Which range of cultural offerings are suitable for attracting new audiences to cultural institutions? To what extent can specific event and educational formats such as festivals and other events provide low-threshold access to art and culture? In addition, we will discuss how digital programmes and educational proposals can contribute to opening up cultural institutions and how cultural institutions can establish and expand contacts and relationships among the various communities of Frankfurt’s urban society.

Questions:

1st From your point of view, what kind of programme offers or proposals would be particularly suitable for attracting new audiences to the cultural institutions and therefore increasing their significance for a diverse society?

2nd To what extent can low-threshold access to culture through specific event and mediation formats such as festivals and other forms of events contribute to strengthening cultural participation? What formats might be particularly suitable for this purpose?

3rd What digital programme and educational offers could contribute to the opening of cultural institutions? From your point of view, which approaches are particularly suitable for this purpose?

4th From your point of view, what approaches are suitable for establishing and encouraging contacts and relationships between cultural institutions and the diverse communities of an urban society?
