Workshop #2:

The city as a cultural space: culture in public spaces

16 March 2023, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., digital

The public space is of paramount importance for cultural participation, since this is where all the city’s inhabitants come together. Cultural offerings in public spaces are therefore particularly suitable for addressing the entire urban society. They facilitate access to art and culture and create an immediate form of visibility in urban spaces. In our second workshop we ask: How can we more effectively develop these resources in the future and further enrich the cultural offerings in public spaces? Are there any new approaches and forms of connections – such as “pop-up” formats or cooperations with already established community offerings – that might be welcome here? To what extent can cultural institutions also contribute to strengthening culture in public spaces?

Questions::

1st In your opinion, which approaches would be suitable for making the existing cultural offerings in public spaces more diverse?

2nd What potential do you see in permanently designating open spaces in the Frankfurt urban area as “cultural spaces” and providing them with a variety of cultural and, if necessary, other offerings throughout the year? In your opinion, which locations would be suitable for this?

3rd What opportunities do “pop-up” formats in public spaces offer for promoting cultural participation through unusual formats and low-threshold access? What aspects / what additional benefits do you associate with “pop-up” formats in public spaces?

4th To what extent could offers made by cultural institutions in public spaces contribute to opening them? What formats would be imaginable in the respective artistic fields?
