Workshop #1:

Cultural venues as places of exploration and encounter

14 March 2023, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., digital (fully booked)

ADDITIONAL DATE: 02 May 2023, 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., digital

A democratic and therefore open society needs places for dialogue and encounters. In this context, cultural institutions are of an elementary importance. In our first workshop, we will therefore ask: How can cultural venues become even stronger meeting places for Frankfurt’s diverse urban society, even beyond the programmes they already offer? What is the role of cultural architecture in the European city of the 21st century? We will look at the design of public areas as well as public spaces surrounding cultural institutions. We will also discuss possible additional functions and individual offerings to encourage forms of assimilating cultural institutions and developing them into “third places”.

Questions:

1st In your view, which steps would be suitable to increase the recreational quality outside of cultural institutions?

2nd What requirements in terms of space and design do public areas of cultural institutions have to fulfil in order to enhance their role as places of encounter and exchange within the urban society?

3rd What services, formats, and forms of use in addition to the regular programmes can be offered in cultural institutions in order to turn them, to an even greater extent, into centres of urban life?

4th What activities for participation, experimentation and hands-on experience could be implemented or expanded in cultural institutions in order to enhance the visitor experience and enable individual experience?
