Frankfurt begins cultural development planning

At the invitation of Dr. Ina Hartwig, Head of the Department of Culture, the steering committee for cultural development planning met for its first meeting on Thursday, 18 November. This marked the start of the process which has been planned to run for two years, and intended to set the course for the future development of Frankfurt’s cultural landscape with broad participation of cultural professionals as well as external experts and interested citizens.

In the data collection phase that is now beginning, surveys of different groups of people and target groups on the needs and potential of culture in Frankfurt will be conducted over the coming months. Planned are, among other things, focus group discussions with citizens and experts, surveys of visitors to cultural institutions and of people who have not yet taken advantage of cultural institutions. Furthermore it is planned to conduct expert interviews with representatives from various cultural institutions and the supported cultural scene including a broadly based online survey among cultural professionals. In the summer of 2022, the mobile format “kep.lab” will also enable participation in the process at various locations in public spaces.

The results of the surveys form the basis for the participation phase, which will begin with a kick-off event in autumn 2022. During the participation phase, proposals for measures for the further development of Frankfurt’s cultural landscape will be developed in theme-centred workshops. In addition, public discussion events on the thematic focal points of the cultural development planning will take place in form of the “kep.talks”. In the conception phase, the prioritised proposals for measures will then be elaborated in detail. The results of the cultural development planning are expected to be presented in summer 2024. Current evaluation and result reports will be published on this page on an ongoing basis.
